About Nevolat Injections

About Nevolat Injections

Nevolat weight loss injections contain the active ingredient liraglutide, which was originally available under the now-discontinued brand name Saxenda. Like Mounjaro and Wegovy, the medication is administered subcutaneously (under the skin); however, this is done on a daily rather than weekly basis.

Nevolat first became available on prescription in the UK in 2021, and is recommended for people who are obese or overweight with related health complications.

What is Nevolat?

Nevolat is a daily weight loss injection containing liraglutide as its active ingredient. Liraglutide belongs to the same class of medications as semaglutide and tirzepatide, a group of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists.

GLP-1 medications suppress appetite by mimicking hormones that influence digestion, making it much easier for users to maintain a calorie deficit. This often enables those using Nevolat and other weight loss injections to lose a substantial amount of weight.

Though initially developed to treat diabetes, GLP-1 agonists like Nevolat have been found to promote considerable weight loss.

How Does Nevolat Work?

Nevolat contains liraglutide, a GLP-1 agonist. GLP-1 agonists are a group of drugs that mimic the effects of the GLP-1 hormone, which is naturally produced in the small intestine.

GLP-1 hormones are released in response to food intake and have several digestive functions. They stimulate insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release, thereby helping regulate blood sugar levels. GLP-1 also slows the rate at which food moves through the stomach, which makes you feel full. By mimicking these effects, GLP-1 agonists, such as liraglutide, significantly reduce appetite and, consequently, calorie intake

Nevolat increases the feeling of fullness after eating and reduces hunger and appetite signals. People on Nevolat also report a decrease in the amount of time they spend thinking about food and diminished cravings. By reducing the desire to eat, Nevolat enables individuals to adhere to a low-calorie diet and lose substantial amounts of weight.

Nevolat Weight Loss Results: Does Nevolat Work?

Clinical studies into the efficacy of Nevolat for weight loss report body weight reductions of up to 15% after 56 weeks of treatment. Participants also experienced improvements in weight-related medical conditions, including better blood sugar control, reduced blood pressure, decreased blood lipid levels, and enhanced overall physical and mental health.

Nevolat treatment may also improve body composition, as one study reported that liraglutide may reduce visceral fat (the fat surrounding internal organs). Having a lot of visceral fat can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, fatty liver disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, and other serious health problems. Therefore, reducing visceral fat through Nevolat treatment may improve long-term health outcomes for overweight and obese people.

Nevolat injections are most effective when used as part of an integrated weight management plan. One study on weight loss maintenance found that people who combined liraglutide therapy with exercise achieved better long-term results than those using either treatment alone.

How Long Do Nevolat Injections Take to Work?

Nevolat injections start working almost immediately. Indeed, some users report a reduction in appetite from the very first day of treatment. It may take a few weeks to notice signs of weight loss, so it’s important to stick to your new routine.

How Long Does Nevolat Stay in Your System?

Liraglutide has an elimination half-life of about 13 hours, which is the time it takes your body to get rid of half a dose. It can take several days for the medication to completely leave the system, which is shorter than with Mounjaro and Wegovy.

How to Administer Nevolat Injections

Nevolat is a subcutaneous weight loss injection that is administered once a day. It can be injected into the front of your thighs, around your abdomen, or into your upper arm. It’s recommended that you regularly rotate injection sites to avoid irritation and to administer Nevolat around the same time each day.

The Nevolat weight loss injections are administered using a pre-filled pen. Although they can be used with or without food, you may want to do so after a light meal to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal side effects, such as nausea. More detailed information about how to administer Nevolat injections can be found in the Patient Information Leaflet or the FAQs section.

Nevolat Dosage Information

The starting dose of Nevolat is 0.6 mg, gradually escalated over 4 weeks to a maximum of 3.0 mg. The dosage schedule for Nevolat is as follow

  • Week 1: 0.6 mg daily

  • Week 2: 1.2 mg daily

  • Week 3: 1.8 mg daily

  • Week 4: 2.4 mg daily

  • Maintenance dose: 3.0 mg daily

It’s recommended that you follow this schedule as closely as possible. If you cannot do this for any reason, please consult your clinician.

What if I Miss a Nevolat Dose?

If you miss a dose within 12 hours of your usual injection time, take it as soon as possible. If you miss a dose and more than 12 hours have elapsed, you should skip the injection and resume your usual dosing schedule the following day

How Long to Take Nevolat

You can use Nevolat injections as part of a long-term weight loss strategy. This is provided you continue to notice results. It’s important to regularly check in with a clinician to ensure the treatment remains suitable for you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Nevolat Weight Loss

Nevolat is the generic version of Saxenda, meaning both contain the same active ingredient (liraglutide). Nevolat is manufactured by Zentiva, whereas Saxenda is produced by Novo Nordisk. The key difference between these two products is cost: Nevolat is available at a lower price point than Saxenda. Therefore, Nevolat is the best choice for those seeking a more cost-effective liraglutide injection.

Nevolat may not be safe for people with certain health conditions, and is not recommended for those with

  • Congestive heart failure

  • Inflammatory bowel disease

  • Diabetic gastroparesis

  • Acute pancreatitis

Doctors also exercise caution when prescribing Nevolat to people over the age of 75 and to those with kidney and liver problems. This is due to a lack of information on the effects of liraglutide in these populations, so their risk of adverse events is unknown.

Talk to your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions before you take liraglutide. If you experience severe or persistent side effects from this medication, seek the advice of a healthcare professional.

Doctors recommend that people on Nevolat avoid or limit their alcohol intake, as this can increase their risk of hypoglycemia (very low blood sugar). Alcohol consumption may also worsen other side effects like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Research suggests that liraglutide treatment may reduce alcohol cravings and consumption, making it easier to limit your intake.

If you have any questions about safe alcohol consumption on Nevolat or any other type of weight loss injection, discuss these with your prescribing clinician before you begin treatment.

There are several important steps you should take when using the Nevolat injection pen. These include:

  • Remove the pen cap and examine the solution through the window

  • Take off the paper tab from the needle and attach it securely

  • Remove the outer needle cap (you’ll need it later) and throw away the inner needle cap

  • Turn the dose selector to the ‘flow check’ symbol and hold the pen with the needle pointing upwards

  • Press and hold the dose button until the counter returns to 0

  • Once the flow has been checked, turn the dose selector until it shows the correct dosage

  • Insert the needle into the injection side, pressing and holding the dose button until the counter shows 0

  • Continue holding the dose button and slowly count to 6

  • Remove the needle and release the dosage button

  • Put the needle tip into the outer cap

  • Unscrew the needle and dispose of it carefully

How long a Nevolat pen lasts depends on where you are in the titration schedule. Each injection pen holds 18 mg of liraglutide, and you will continue using the same one until the solution is fully used or there is not enough left to cover the next dose.

The table below outlines how long a Nevolat pen should last:

DaysDose Per Day (mg)Pen #Remaining Solution (mg)
1-7           0.6113.8
8-14           1.215.4
15-17           1.810
18-21           1.8210.8
22-25            2.421.2 (not enough for next dose)
26-28            2.4310.8
29-31             331.8 (not enough for next dose)
32-35             346
36-37             340

Assuming you’re following the recommended Nevolat dosage schedule, each injection pen should last for 6 days once you’ve reached the maximum maintenance dose of 3 mg. As a result, you will need 5 pens to last for 30 days.

Nevolat injections should be stored out of the sight and reach of children and animals. Before opening, keep it in a refrigerator between 2˚C-8˚C and away from the freezer compartment. Once you start using the pen, it can stay in the fridge or be kept at a temperature below 30˚C for one month. Do not use after the expiry date.

When you are not using the pen, it’s important to keep the pen cap to protect it from harsh light. Take care not to use the pen if the solution is not clear and colourless. More information can be found within the Patient Information Leaflet

Yes, you can switch to Nevolat pens from other weight loss treatments. This is true for both tablets and injections. If you’d like to change medications, you must first consult a specialist clinician who will examine your reasons for switching and determine whether liraglutide is a suitable option for you.

There are several alternatives to Nevolat injections to help you lose weight. Each has its own mechanism of action and set of characteristics, so it’s important to determine whether your chosen medication is right for you. A clinician will help you do this.

At Weight Loss Journey, we offer the following treatments:

  • Mounjaro: Regarded as one of the most effective weight loss injections, Mounjaro contains the dual-action ingredient tirzepatide. The treatment could result in a 20.9% drop in body weight after 36 weeks.

  • Wegovy: A once-weekly subcutaneous injection, Wegovy’s active ingredient, semaglutide, may help you lose at least 15% of your starting body weight.

  • Mysimba: These tablets contain active ingredients that were initially used to treat addiction. Mysimba users could see a 3.67kg drop in body weight.

  • Xenical: Containing the active ingredient orlistat, Xenical tablets have been proven to help people lose 2.89kg more than a placebo.

  • Orlistat: The generic and more cost-effective version of Xenical. Orlistat helps weight loss by blocking the absorption of 30% of the fat you eat, thereby facilitating a calorie deficit.

  • Alli: An over-the-counter version of Orlistat and Xenical that contains just 60 mg of the active ingredient. Alli could result in at least a 10% weight loss after 6 months.
